Chulas Fronteras (1976/2018)
NEWLY REMASTERED TO 4K
A complex, insightful look at the Chicano experience as mirrored in the lives and music of the most acclaimed Norteño musicians of the Texas-Mexican border, including Los Alegres de Teran, Flaco Jimenez, and Lydia Mendoza. Chulas Fronteras was selected by The Library Of Congress to be added to the National Film Registry list, of the 400 motion pictures to be preserved in perpetuity.
Chulas Fronteras, Del Mero Corazon, plus 30 minutes of bonus footage, (with some historical perspective about major artists) were digitally remastered to 4K in 2018. The DVD and BluRay include a commentary audio track made by Chris Strachwitz, Les Blank and Maureen Gosling in 2003 when this package of “Roots of Tex-Mex Music” was originally edited and released on DVDs. (The audio commentary does not show up in the menu but can generally be found using your DVD or BluRay player’s access to audio tracks.)
